Where does your company stand?

Eight questions on data, work, authority and measurement. Answer for how things are today, not how they should be. It takes about three minutes and the result appears at once.

1Where does the data your operation runs on live?

In many systems and files, and few people know where things are. In a few systems. We export to Excel when we need it. The main data is joined up in one place, but not all of it. In one place we own, open to software under clear permissions.

2What does AI do in your company today?

Nothing that matters, or only experiments. Individuals use chat tools for one-off tasks. It handles defined tasks inside one team. Agents read and change data in the systems themselves, under supervision.

3Which decisions may AI take without a person approving?

None, and it has not been discussed. None, but we know where it could apply. A few small, reversible decisions within written limits. Defined authority that widens as the record shows it is safe.

4Can you show what AI has delivered?

No. We have a feeling it saves time. We measure usage or time, not money. Yes, in money, against a baseline and reconciled to the accounts.

5Has the leadership team's working week changed because of AI?

No. The schedule is the same as three years ago. Slightly. Some leaders use it themselves. Meetings, reports or approval chains have partly changed. Yes, a lot. Less time goes to gathering information and more to decisions.

6How is the use of AI governed?

No rules. People use whatever they like. A usage policy exists on paper. Access, permissions and approvals are defined for what is in use. Every action is logged and tested, and everything can be stopped at once.

7Where does the knowledge of how work gets done live?

In the heads of a few key people. Partly in documents that are out of date. The main processes are written down and kept current. Written down in a form both people and software can use.

8How often do you retire old ways of working?

Almost never. When a system is replaced, every few years. Once a year we review processes and retire some. Routinely. Every new workflow gets a date when the old way stops.
